How does the in-store status check work?
When you arrive at the store, simply open the O-reason application. The main screen will immediately display your real-time status:
● Green screen: You are authorized to purchase alcohol.
● Red screen: You have activated an abstinence period, and the purchase of alcohol is blocked.
This feature is designed to simplify and secure the in-store experience.
Can I change my abstinence period once I've defined it?
Yes, you can adjust your abstinence period directly from the app. However:
Once a period has been activated (e.g. 6 months, 2 years, or lifetime), it cannot be cancelled or reduced to guarantee the commitment.
You can extend an existing period or schedule a new one after the previous one has expired.
These rules ensure a serious and reliable experience for all users
What if I don't have a smartphone?
If you don’t have a smartphone, you can use the O-reason website.
Here’s how:
■ Maak een online account aan en controleer je identiteit met behulp van je nationale nummer (ID-kaart).
■ Define your abstinence period.
■ Download and print a declaration of abstinence valid for one year, which you can present at participating stores.
The website is designed to ensure that anyone can access O-reason, even without a mobile device.
Please note: once you log in to your account via the smartphone app, the option to print the abstinence declaration will no longer be available on the web version.
Is the app only for people with alcohol addiction?
This is not the case. O-Reason is for everyone, whatever your relationship with alcohol, to help raise awareness and build community support. The app also plays a key role in prevention, helping to limit the sale of alcohol to under-16s and supporting retailers in complying with legal restrictions for under-18s.
